WORK AREA
CAUTION indicates a potentially hazardous
situation which, if not avoided, may result in
minor or moderate injury.
Keep your work area clean and well lit. Cluttered work benches and dark work
areas may cause accidents or injury.
CAUTION used without the safety alert symbol
indicates a potentially hazardous situation which,
if not avoided, may result in property damage.
Do not operate power tools in explosive areas, such as in the presence of
flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite
the dust or fumes.
NOTE provides additional information that is useful
for proper use and maintenance of this tool. If a
NOTE is indicated make sure it is fully understood.
Keep bystanders, children and visitors away while operating a power tool.
Distractions can cause you to lose control.
IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
People with electronic devices, such as pacemakers, should consult their
physician(s) before using this product. Operation of electrical equipment in
close proximity to a heart pacemaker could cause interference or failure of
the pacemaker.
Double insulated tools are equipped with a polarized plug (one blade is
wider than the other.) This plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If
the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit,
contact a qualified electrician to install a polarized outlet. Do not change the
plug in any way. Double insulation eliminates the need for the three wire
grounded power cord and grounded power supply system.
WARNING: Some dust created by power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling and
other construction activities contains chemicals known to the State of California
to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.
Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges
and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is
grounded.
Some examples of these chemicals are:
• Lead from lead-based paints.
• Crystalline silica from bricks and cement and other masonry products,
and arsenic and chromium from chemically-treated lumber.
Don’t expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power
tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
Your risk from these exposures varies, depending on how often you do this type
of work. To reduce your exposure to these chemicals: work in a well ventilated
area, and work with approved safety equipment, such as dust masks that are
specially designed to filter out microscopic particles.
Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord to carry the tool or pull the plug
from an outlet. Keep the cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving
parts. Replace damaged cords immediately. Damaged cords increase the risk
of electric shock.
WARNING: Handling the power cord on this product may expose you to lead, a
chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or
other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling.
When operating the tool outside, use an outdoor extension cord marked “W-
A” or “W.”These cords are rated for outdoor use and reduce the risk of elec-
tric shock.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.

Maintain tools with care. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained
tools with a sharp cutting edge are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
PERSONAL SAFETY
Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, and any
other condition that may affect the tool’s operation. If damaged, have the tool
serviced before using.
Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operat-
ing a power tool. Do not use tool while tired or under the influence of drugs,
alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools
may result in serious personal injury.
Use only accessories that are recommended by the manufacturer for your model.
Accessories that may be suitable for one tool, may become hazardous when used
on another tool.
Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Contain long hair.
Keep your hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes,
jewelry or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
SERVICE
Tool service must be performed only by qualified repair personnel. Service or
maintenance by unqualified personnel could result in a risk of injury.
Avoid accidental starting. Be sure switch is off before plugging in. Carrying
tools with your finger on the switch or plugging in tools that have the switch on invites
accidents.
When servicing a tool, use only identical replacement parts. Follow instructions
in the Maintenance section of this manual. Use of unauthorized parts or failure to
follow Maintenance Instructions may create a risk of shock or injury.
Remove adjusting keys or wrenches before turning the power tool “ON”.
A wrench or a key that is left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may
result in personal injury.
SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES AND/OR SYMBOLS
Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Proper foot-
ing and balance enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situa-
tions.
Hold tool by insulated gripping surfaces when performing an operation where the
cutting tool may contact hidden wiring. Contact with a “live” wire will also make
exposed metal parts of the tool “live” and shock the operator.
Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Dust mask, non-skid
safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection must be used for appropriate
conditions.
IMPORTANT SAFETY RULES FOR DRILLS
For safety and better control, always use both hands to hold tool. If the bit jams and
kicks back, having both hands on the drill will make it easier to handle.
TOOL USE AND CARE
Always wear eye protection and an OSHA-approved dust mask when drilling.
Use clamps or other practical ways to secure and support the workpiece to a
stable platform. Holding the work by hand or against your body is unstable and
may lead to loss of control.
Never hold the work piece in your hand or against your body. Use clamps to anchor
the work piece to a stable base. Never drill material too small to be secured properly.
Do not force tool. Use the correct tool for your application. The correct tool will
do the job better and safer at the rate for which it is designed.
Keep hands and drill cord away from the rotating bit.
Make sure there are no nails, staples or other foreign objects in the work piece.
Do not use the tool if the power switch does not turn it “ON” or “OFF”. Any tool that
cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
To prevent accidental starting, always disconnect the plug from the power source
before making any adjustments or changing accessories.
Disconnect the power cord plug from the power source before making any
adjustments, changing accessories or storing the tool. Such preventive safety
measures reduce the risk of starting the tool accidentally.
Never run the drill while carrying it at your side.
If the bit becomes bound in the work piece, release the trigger immediately and
prepare for the tool to kickback toward you. Reverse the direction of rotation, then
back out the bit by slowly squeezing the trigger.
Store idle tools out of reach of children and other untrained persons. Tools are
dangerous in the hands of untrained users.

Make sure all accessories are rated for the recommended speed of the drill.
Brushes, grinding wheels and other accessories may fall apart if run at too high a
speed, sending dangerous debris flying at the operator.
FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
Use gloves when changing hot bits and accessories to avoid burns.

BIT INSERTION
• Unplug the drill. Never change bits
OPERATING THE ON/OFF SWITCH
Squeeze the trigger switch to turn the tool “ON”. Release the trigger switch to turn
the tool “OFF”.
on a live drill.
• Make sure the bit is undamaged,
sharp and free from wood or metal
shavings. Foreign material on the
bit may keep the chuck from tight-
ening fully. A loose bit may cause
injury.
When drilling for extended periods, the “Lock-On” switch may be used, but do not
use this switch in situations where the drill is likely to bind or kickback. If kickback
does occur, the sudden motion of the tool may make it difficult to release the “Lock-
On” switch and turn the drill off.
SPEED CONTROL ADJUSTING SWITCH
• Push the bit into the chuck as far
as it will go.
To increase the operating speed of the
drill, turn the variable speed control clock-
wise. To decrease the speed, turn the
variable speed control counterclockwise.
• Make sure the bit is in the center
of the chuck. If the bit is off-cen-
ter, it will not be held securely and
may fly loose during use causing
serious injury.
• Insert the chuck key into one of the three chuck holes. Rotate the chuck key
clockwise to lock the bit in place.
• Remove the chuck key.
Always run the drill for one minute before drilling to make
sure the bit is properly seated. If the bit needs to be adjusted, unplug the drill
before touching the bit.
REVERSING SWITCH LEVER
The reversing switch lever reverses the
rotation of the drill bit. It is located just
above the trigger switch. ALWAYS turn the
motor off and let the bit come to a
complete stop before moving the switch.
BIT REMOVAL
• Unplug the drill.
Move the switch to the right for a forward
rotation of the bit. Move the switch to the
left to put the bit into reverse.
• Insert the chuck key into one of
the three chuck holes. Rotate the
chuck key counterclockwise to
unlock the bit.
• Remove the bit.
Do not change the direction of a moving bit. Make sure the
bit comes to a complete standstill before moving switch. Changing direction
while the bit is moving can cause damage to the drill.
9
10

MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING
In certain situations, the bit may bind and the drill will kick-
back in the opposite direction. This sudden reaction could lead to loss of con-
trol and possible serious injury. Always be prepared for the possibility of kick-
back, especially when breaking through material to complete a hole.
Unplug the drill before performing maintenance or cleaning.
• Never immerse tool in liquid. Never let any liquid inside tool housing.
• Clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not use solvents or harsh detergents.
• Check brushes periodically. Worn brushes should be replaced by qualified serv-
ice personnel.
DRILLING WOOD
• Always clamp the work piece to a steady base. Never hold in your hand or
across your legs.
• Keep air vents clean and free from debris. Blocked air vents can lead to over-
heating.
• Apply pressure in line with the bit. Applying pressure at an angle could cause
the bit to bind or break.
ACCESSORIES
• Thin materials that may splinter should be drilled with another piece of wood
placed underneath.
Use only accessories that are recommended by the manufacturer for your model.
Accessories that may be suitable for one tool may become hazardous when used on
another tool.
• Twist bits can be used for wood drilling but will overheat if the flutes are not
cleared of wood chips periodically.
Always attach grounded (3-prong) extension cords to grounded (3-hole) outlets.
• To prevent splintering when finishing holes, stop drilling just before the hole
breaks through and complete the hole from the other side.
If you must use an extension cord, be sure that the gauge is large enough to carry
the amount of current necessary for your power tool. If not, your tool may experi-
ence a loss of power, excessive voltage drop or overheating. The smaller the gauge
number, the heavier the cord (see table below).
DRILLING MASONRY
• Always use carbide tip bits for drilling masonry.
RECOMMENDED SIZES OF EXTENSION CORDS 120 VOLT AC 60 HZ TOOLS
• Use an even pressure, hard enough to keep the drill biting, but not so hard that
the bit spins in the hole. Spinning the bit will dull it quickly. Bricks and similar
soft materials will take less pressure than a hard material like concrete.
